Parvathy Baul is a practitioner and teacher of the Baul tradition from Bengal in India. She is also an instrumentalist, storyteller and painter. She has performed in over fifty countries, including prestigious concert halls and music festivals such as the Noh Theater in Kyoto, the World Music Center in New York City and the Festival of World Sacred Music in Fez, Morocco. Parvathy’s technical virtuosity—her mastery of vocal pitch and tone while playing multiple instruments and dancing—has been praised by music experts, while the overall impact of her performance has been described by critics as “mesmerizing.”

She was awarded the prestigious Sangeet Natak Akademi Award by the Government of India in February 2018. This award was given for her contribution to the tradition of Baul for over two decades.

Parvathy is also known for her efforts to renew this ancient heritage. As the most recognized female Baul practitioner in the world, she makes systematic training in traditional Baul arts available to women on a scale never seen before.

Parvathy Baul is also the founder of Tantidhatri, an international women’s performance art festival. Under her leadership, this festival was organized in the years 2012, 2015 and 2019 in Auroville, Bengaluru and Kolkata respectively.
